Overall condition is good but it has a hole at the crown and a small hole in the back of the brim which appears to have been used for carrying it hanging off a belt or on a lanyard

each candidate was required to have had at least two years of honorable service in the Civil War

more that 2 inches of new steel inserted and then assembled into a non-functional non-gun

The barrel was not shortened

The leather is in good condition but does have cracking and flaking
