The Royal Niger Company’s Medal was a campaign medal issued in 1899 by the Royal Niger Company for service in minor military operations in Nigeria between 1886 and 1897

and traditionally there would be one turret on board battleships and cruisers that would be manned by the MarDet

Made from solid brass this is in fact two pieces used in the construction of perhaps the French answer to the American Zippo

The design is the classic blue trapezoid with a yellow "Statue of Liberty" painted in the middle

German doctrine was the reverse
